Earlier this week, with support from Mississippi-based animal welfare groups Pals of Paws Society, the Senatobia-Tate County Animal Shelter and Mills Mobile Veterinary Services, we removed 50 dogs from a property in Coldwater, Mississippi.
The animals were surrendered to the ASPCA after an overwhelmed pet owner recognized they could not provide the dogs with adequate care, including spay/neuter and medical treatment, and was unable to access affordable veterinary services. Most of the animals were relocated to an ASPCA emergency shelter where they will receive medical and behavioral care, while 15 of the dogs were transferred to Nashville Humane Association.
In addition to providing boots-on-the-ground support in situations such as these, we are working to reimagine how the animal welfare and veterinary field can best serve pets, pet parents and communities. We strive to provide a model for animal welfare organizations across the country, so together, we can work to eliminate barriers to veterinary care that can lead to poor welfare.
