Burning visceral fat is crucial for a long and healthy life as the culprit can trigger health problems. From diabetes to heart disease, visceral fat can increase your risk of various conditions. Luckily, an expert shares how you can burn the belly fat in weeks.
Visceral fat is stored deep inside your belly surrounding vital organs.
Wrapped around the liver and intestines, this harmful fat makes up about one-tenth of the overall body fat.
But unlike subcutaneous fat, it is hidden in your abdominal cavity where it can release harmful chemicals into your bloodstream.
Dr Tim Bond from the Tea Advisory Panel (TAP) shared that one way to stamp out the stubborn belly fat is enjoying a drink beloved by many Brits.
You might have guessed that the popular drink is the one and only black tea.
Dr Bond said: “A research review that TAP recently published found that black tea can help with visceral fat reduction.
“This review highlighted a study that showed that drinking three cups of black tea for 12 weeks reduced body weight and waist circumference.”
Based on this new review, having three cups of the hot beverage daily can help you cut visceral fat in just weeks.
However, the TAP’s research wasn’t the only one to discover the beneficial effects of black tea on waist circumference.
A study published in the National Library of Medicine set out to explore the non-caffeine effects of the drink on body weight and body fat distribution.
The participants enjoyed three cups of black tea for three months.
After following this tea protocol, the study saw a reduction in waist circumference.
The reason why this is relevant is because waist circumference “is strongly correlated” with visceral fat tissue, BMC Medicine states.
However, the study also reported that there was no evidence that these beneficial effects were sustained beyond three months.
Dr Bond explained why the tea is able to shed the belly fat: “In terms of foods and drinks, diets high in flavonoids (catechins, flavones, flavanols) which are found in black tea, fruits and vegetables are associated with reduced body fat.”
So, sticking to the plant goodies could help you shed the harmful fat.
As it’s necessary to drink a few cups of black tea daily to see the results, keep an eye on your sugar intake.
The tea expert added: “Whilst black tea provides no calories, a teaspoon of sugar provides about 16 calories, although if you drink a lot of tea this can soon add up.
“Adults are recommended not to exceed 30 grams [of] sugar each day.”
Plus, studies have shown that people who eat more added sugar tend to have more visceral fat.
