Dr Amir Khan appeared on Lorraine to discuss four new COVID-19 symptoms people need to be aware of. He also stressed the importance for the government to update their website to make sure people suffering with any of the symptoms take the necessary precautions.
Dr Amir said: “The Government isn’t up to date with these four new symptoms.
“Without updating the website, we haven’t got a true reflection of how many cases we have in this country.”
He stressed the importance of getting the website up to date.
Dr Amir said: “The vaccines don’t make you immune to the virus.”
And the GP explained how the symptoms of Covid can differ after being vaccinated.
“This is based on data from the ZOE symptoms tracker app,” he said.
To book a PCR, the Government says you must display one or more of the classic symptoms – a fever, a persistent cough, and a loss of sense of taste and/or smell.
“But actually what we’re seeing is doubly vaccinated people displaying other symptoms,” said Dr Amir.

These symptoms are:
- Headache
- Sore throat
- Sneezing
- Runny nose
Dr Amir added: The issue is the Government website isn’t up to date with the symptoms.
“Unless you have the classic three symptoms you can’t book a PCR test.”
Dr Amir said some of his patients who have experience sneezing, a sore throat and a runny nose have not been able to get a test, but have later proven to have Covid.
“It’s not a true reflection of the cases we’ve got in this country,” he said.
He stressed: “Get up to date people – get that website up to date.”
Anyone who thinks they may have Covid should take a test.
The classic symptoms of Covid are also listed by the NHS as:
- A persistent cough
- A fever
- Loss of smell or taste
But Professor Tim Spector, who runs the Zoe Covid Symptom study, says these are now less common, based on data.
The data has been collated from thousands of people logging their symptoms on the Zoe app.
