A runner-up on Strictly… last year, singer and TV presenter HRVY has been busy making new music during lockdown.

He’s also been working with The Lego Group on a campaign to support kids who’ve struggled during the past year.

The company is inspiring them to become FOCOs (Finders Of Creative Opportunities) with the help of Vidiyo, a playful and innovative music video maker designed to celebrate children’s creativity through music.

What do you do to stay fit and healthy?

I spend most of my time dancing so this keeps me fit. To help me stay healthy my manager always gives me multi-vitamins and we always eat relatively well, with meals such as chicken and rice.

Do you have any vices?

I love sweets and crisps and junk food, which kind of contradicts my answer to the first question… but everything in moderation.

What good intentions with your physical fitness have you not acted on?

Regularly playing tennis. I love playing tennis on holiday and so I really should improve my physical fitness by playing tennis when I’m not on holiday, too!

Have you or anyone you know had coronavirus?

I tested positive for coronavirus at the end of 2020. I didn’t have any symptoms but thought, to be safe, allied packaging material I should get a test, as in February of that year I’d had symptoms.

I lost my sense of taste and smell for a couple of weeks and felt a little run down, but thankfully I got better fairly quickly.

How have the national lockdowns impacted you?

Negatively, I haven’t been able to tour and meet the fans and so I’m hoping to do that soon. Positively, finding new outlets for creativity and self-expression, such as learning to play the piano, has really helped me.

I’ve also been working with Lego and its #VidiyoVibes campaign to inspire kids to be creative, which has been cool.

There is this whole movement of people at the moment who are exploring outlets for creative expression to boost their wellbeing and music is a big part of that.

How is your physical health?

After dancing on Strictly, my physical health is probably at an all-time high. I feel really good.

Has your work contributed to a healthier you?

Yes, definitely. Music boosts my mood and gives me a chance to make others happy. I released a song called Good Vibes towards the end of last year — it’s really uplifting and positive.

How is your mental health?

I’m fortunate that I don’t suffer with things like anxiety and depression or struggle with anything on a mental health level.

Online I do all I can to encourage people going through a tough time to stay positive.

What steps do you take to improve your mood?

When I feel low, as we all do, I like to listen to music or wrap myself up in a blanket and watch a movie.

HRVY has partnered with The Lego Group to launch #VidiyoVibes, which aims to inspire kids to be creative and make music videos. Download the Lego Vidiyo app for free at lego.com.
