Ever since the world first heard of Gwen Stefani – which, judging by my extensive collection of So Fresh CD’s was circa 1996 – she’s never parted with her platinum blonde hair. Skimming through the math (because, words person) that’s many decades and loooooots of dosh worth of dye. But have you ever spared a thought for how brunette she might be under all those chemicals?
Via Instagram this week, the singer posted a cute throwback pic to celebrate her brother Eric’s birthday – her natural locks on show.

Her shoulder-length, mousey-brown tresses are totally unrecognisable. The first thought that comes to our mind? So. Much. Maintenance.
Stefani’s colourist, Danilo Dixon, previously told Refinery29 that he dyes her hair every week with a bleach-free formula he developed just for her.
“Gwen’s an Italian girl with wavy brown hair — if you look at the video for Cool, we did her in her natural shade, maybe a little darker — so I developed a high lift formula for her,” he said.
Now that’s dedication to her ‘do.
