Now, new research from Rutgers University say that if you combine turmeric with phenethyl isothiocyanate then this could reduce your risk of developing prostate cancer.

The principal compound of turmeric is curcumin.

The scientists found that it was this compound that gave turmeric its positive property.

If you’re worried about how you’ll find such a complicated sounding chemical, then there’s no need as it is found broccoli.

There are other health benefits to turmeric beyond reducing your risk of developing prostate cancer.

The curcumin compound, and subsequently turmeric, is a natural anti-inflammatory.

As a result, turmeric could be used to reduce your risk of heart disease and potentially, Alzheimer’s disease.

Although very high doses would be needed in order for the effects to be felt and more research is needed in this area.

Turmeric may also be effective for arthritis patients.

Some studies have studied the impact of turmeric and found improvements in the symptoms of patients with the condition.

It’s not just your physical health where turmeric can have benefits.

Depression could be another victim of its seemingly immense potential.

A small study found that it could act as an anti-depressant.

Longevity is on the minds of many as we get older and, again, turmeric could be effective in this regard too.

If it can act as an effective anti-inflammatory and reduce your risk of developing forms of dementia, cancer and heart disease, it should theoretically be able to increase your lifespan too.

It is important to stress however, that whilst turmeric may sound like a super-food, it is no guarantee, and you should not rely on it.

Turmeric should form part of a healthy and balanced diet that is consumed in conjunction with exercise.

More research is required to confirm turmeric’s potential large scale beneficial impact.
