Longevity research is slowly helping pave the way to healthy ageing for millions, but there is no one-size-fits-all approach to the matter. One non-negotiable rule for prolonging lifespan includes adopting good dietary habits. In fact, some ingredients such as pomegranate juice, have come into sharp focus for their life-pronging effects. What’s more, the unique antioxidants of the fruit have also been shown to burn dangerous abdominal fat.
Pomegranate is an excellent source of dietary polyphenols that play important roles in an array of health functions.
In fact, Medical News Today, states, the fruit contains three times more antioxidants than red wine and green tea.
Some research suggests pomegranate extract can potentiate lifespan extension thanks to its polyphenols.
In a separate body of research published in the Pharmacognosy Magazine researchers noted similar findings.

They said: “The longevity effect of different concentrations of pomegranate were observed day by day.
“After 23 days day experimental period, it was seen that the longevity promoting effect of pomegranate increased with 1.25, 2.5 and especially 5 mg/mL concentrations.”
The same longevity promoting effect was not observed at higher concentrations, however.
The researchers continued: “As a matter of fact, some studies reported reported that at higher doses, antioxidant substances could behave as inhibitor for longevity.”
Visceral fat
Research published in the BMJ journal states that excess belly fat is linked to a higher risk of early death from any cause.
Conversely, it suggests that having larger hips and thighs may be linked to a lower risk.
Alongside the life-prolonging effects of pomegranate juice, some studies have shown it may also help reduce visceral fat.
Visceral fat is harmful because it is lodged deep within the abdominal cavity, and encases many of the vital organs.
It is already infamous for excreting dangerous chemicals known to hike the risk of having a heart attack.
Fortunately, many of the compounds found in pomegranate juice can inhibit the storage of dangerous fats.
According to the E Metabolic Research Centre: “Pomegranate blocks triglycerides, the type of fat that gets into your blood and increases your risk of heart disease.
“By attacking this fat before it can be stored in your body, pomegranate also keeps them from manifesting as belly fat.
“[The fruit] also offers a host of additional health benefits such as improving your immunity, lowering cholesterol and blood pressure, and helping prevent certain types of cancer including breast and prostate cancer.”
Experts explain that the antioxidants, polyphenols and linolenic acid all help burn fat and boost metabolism, and aid weight loss by suppressing appetite.
Research also shows it can slow the growth of plaque and build-up of cholesterol in the arteries.
But despite its many heart-healthy benefits, drinking too much pomegranate juice may cause good pressure to drop too low, so moderate intake is encouraged.
