Four kids is certainly a house full, but according to Ryan Reynolds, he and wife Blake Lively are settling in just fine with their recently expanded family numbers.
The Deadpool actor and Gossip Girl alum now share four children: daughters James, 8, Inez, 6, and Betty, 3, as well as Baby Reynolds, who the couple secretly welcomed sometime between the end of 2022 and the beginning of 2023. Along with the child’s birth date, Reynolds and Lively have kept the baby’s gender and name hush-hush.
In fact, the confirmation of Baby No. 4’s arrival was a nonchalant February 2023 Instagram post by the It Ends With Us actress, in which she didn’t actually touch on welcoming the latest addition to her gaggle of girls, but was notably no longer pregnant-looking.
The Aviation Gin founder did recently give the world some insight on expanding from a family of 5 to 6, though, and his take on the situation is as wholesome as ever.
On the Transition From 3 to 4
During an interview with ET Canada on April 14, the Definitely, Maybe actor joked about his kids in typical Ryan Reynolds fashion. “I haven’t met any of them yet, but they seem great,” he said. “They have a private Instagram account that I follow.”
In seriousness, he continued, “You know, two to three was a huge jump… three to four less so. I cannot speak for my wife, but it’s just from what I’ve observed.” The doting dad shared that he and Lively love being parents to four kids, adding, “You know, we would be idiots to do this again if we didn’t love it.”
Wanting a Big Family After Coming From Big Families
Reynolds added that he and Lively have always wanted to have a big family, explaining, “I come from four, Blake comes from five. Both of us are the youngest.”
Both stars have previously spoken about how their upbringings inspired them to carry on the tradition of large family numbers. In 2013, a year before welcoming their first child, The Adam Project actor told Us Weekly, “We’d love to have a big family. … A lot of people say it’s crazy, but we’ll only know when we’re there, you know? We’ll walk through that fire pretty happily, I think.”
For Lively’s part, she opened up to Us after publically announcing her pregnancy with James in 2014. “[Having children is] something that I’ve always wanted ever since I was a little girl,” The Shallows actress shared. “I never knew what I wanted to do for a living but I knew I wanted to have a lot of kids because I had come from a big family, so it was always important to me,” she gushed.
A Dream Come True
The Betty Buzz founder opened up about how profound motherhood has been for her during the September 2022 Forbes Power Women’s Summit, explaining, “Having children, for me, made me feel so much more in my skin.” She added, “I never felt more myself or at ease in my own body or more confident — not to say that there aren’t a bevy of insecurities coming at me a million times a day, but I just feel incredibly settled.”
Lively sweetly shared, “Family is at the root of everything that I do and it’s also at the root of everything that I create. So whenever I create something, I create something with family in mind because that’s just how I live.”
She and Reynolds said “I do” in 2012 after meeting on the set of Green Lantern in 2010, and the rest is history. If anyone could convince us that fairytale romances exist in real life, it’s these two.
