Christina Ricci turned an ongoing custody battle into an excuse to eat caviar yesterday and it’s a pretty epic move. The Yellowjackets star treated her 8-year-old son Freddie to a lavish trip to the Big Apple and shared each of their activities — perhaps more than she would have usually — in what we have to imagine was a major middle finger to her ex-husband James Heerdegen.

And how best do you start a trip to New York City with an 8-year-old? You swing by the FAO Schwartz toy store, of course! Freddie will be “bringing some snow back to Cali” thanks to the box of Marvin’s Magic Snow they bought, and we certainly hope the giant box of gummy worms he posed with made it into their shopping cart too.
And it only gets more extravagant from there. Ricci then let Freddie order a $195 Osetra caviar dish for dinner with potato rosti and crème fraîche. You read that right! “Caviar monster,” Ricci wrote on one photo (see all of the snapshots from her Instagram Stories HERE). And no fancy meal would be complete without a perfectly paired drink, which is why there was a selfie of the Wednesday actress and her son who is holding a watermelon mocktail in the air.
How adorable is that? The mocktail cheers might not have happened if things went according to Freddie’s father’s alleged plan.
“Vindictive” Dad
Image Credit: River Callaway/Variety via Getty Images Ricci — who filed for divorce in 2020 following an alleged domestic battery incident — accused ex-husband James Heerdegen of maliciously trying to stop the trip. In court documents obtained by Page Six, Heerdegen had agreed to let Freddie go on this work trip with his mom but later changed his mind.
“[James’] refusal to agree causes me concern because he clearly was being vindictive and retaliatory when he initially refused my request to travel for the additional dates,” Ricci said in the documents filed on June 20. “As recently as June 19, 2023, Jimmy was agreeable to allowing Freddie to travel with me, but apparently he still wants to wait until our hearing to discuss it.”
The actress then claimed the film producer is “purposefully” making her “incur attorneys’ fees unnecessarily.”
A similar incident occurred in Jan. 2023 when Heerdegem reportedly tried to block the mother and son from going on a work trip to Canada.

There’s no doubt she’ll be a fun traveling companion just like her big brother. And based on a recent video Ricci posted, she needs to take this water-loving babe to the beach ASAP.
