“Scientists now know that most of its health benefits are caused by sulfur compounds formed when a garlic clove is chopped, crushed or chewed.
“Garlic can lower total and LDL cholesterol. For those with high cholesterol, garlic supplements appear to reduce total and/or LDL cholesterol by about 10 to 15 percent.
“Human studies have found garlic supplements to have a significant impact on reducing blood pressure in people with high blood pressure.”
Meanwhile, you could also lower your risk of heart disease by regularly taking magnesium supplements, it’s been claimed.
They’re one of the best types of vitamins to protect against heart attacks and high blood pressure.
Magnesium helps the body to release a hormone-like compound, named prostacyclin.
This hormone relieves the tension in blood vessel walls, which subsequently lowers your blood pressure.
